Phil-John

Director, BBF: Phil John

Phil was introduced to basketball at Llwynderw secondary modern school -via the expertise of his then mathematics teacher Brian Sparks, a well-known international rugby union/league player.

Phil went on to play his first under 15's international game against Scotland in Dumfries in 1962 when he was only 13 years old. His representative honours continued amounting to some 50 caps at under 16, under 18, and senior 'B' levels.

Phil has also been involved in coaching and the management of schools international teams. Although his full involvement in the sport was interrupted by a health issue in the late 1990's he was able to return to "active duty" in 2006 when he was elected as the Vice Chairman of Basketball Wales. In 2009 Phil became the Chairman of Basketball Wales and he was also appointed as a BBF Director.

Phil's professional life revolves around his 44 years in youth work and his current role as Youth Service Officer with Bridgend County Borough Council.
