The Standard Life GB Women enjoyed their second victory in as many days after a hard-fought 81-65 win over Argentina this evening at the Turkish International Foundation Tournament in Ankara.
Fresh from their 27-point win over a South Korean team ranked ninth in the world, the 12th-ranked Argentineans proved tougher opponents until GB broke the game open in the second half.
Jo Leedham again led her side's scoring with 22 points, but the key to the game was GB's defence in the third quarter as they outscored the South Americans 26-10.
"Terrific effort tonight," enthused head coach, Tom Maher. "Defensively we really put the brakes on them, especially in the third quarter.
"We stayed really aggressive offensively and we had a lot of contributors, so it was a fine win."
Julie Page, who grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, added: "We did a really good job today, I thought we played really well as a team.
"Everyone stepped up and played their role and I was really proud of us on both the offensive and defensive ends."
Argentina started the stronger of the two teams and would enjoy their biggest lead at 14-7 before GB hit back with a 10-0 run in a tight first half.
After the two teams went into the break tied 38-38, GB clamped down defensively and built an unassailable lead thanks in part to strong shooting performances from Natalie Stafford (14 points), Temi Fagbenle (13) and Chantelle Handy (12).
Great Britain will now look to win the tournament on Sunday evening when they go up against host nation, Turkey, who are also undefeated in their opening two games.
