The Standard Life Great Britain Women ended their campaign at the European Under 20 Championships in Debrecen with a 62-54 defeat to Portugal on Sunday.
Cheridene Green had a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds for GB, who finished 16th overall at the close of the a tournament in which injuries took their toll on Frans Griffioen 's young side.
But GB went out fighting in their last tie in Debrecen, as they led for most of the first half with Olufemi Hamilton hitting two free throws to extend her team's cushion to 21-15 midway through the second period.
However the Portuguese, paced by a game-best 20 points from Jessica Almeida, struck back to level at 31-31 at half-time.
And although the sides traded the lead five times in the third quarter and were tied at 49-49 with 7:12 left in the fourth, Portugal saved their best until last.
A 6-0 run took them clear for good, increasing their advantage to as much as ten in the final minutes.
Olufemi Hamilton added 12 points for GB.
