Born in California, Boyd qualifies for the GB national team via his British parents and proved an effective solution to what had become a problem position, the play-making point guard, for the team.

Boyd played his college basketball in the prestigious Ivy League for Dartmouth, averaging 9.7 points and 5.5 assists per game over his four-year career with the Big Green between 1998-2002 before using his British passport to start his professional career in Europe.

The 5'11 guard quickly established a strong reputation in the highly-regarded French league where he played for four clubs – Le Havre, Evreux, Mulhouse and Nantes – over the next four seasons.

There followed a move to Spain, where Boyd played from 2006-08, for Rosalia de Castro in the lower division LEB. By the end of his time in Spain, Boyd had also come to the attention of GB coach Chris Finch who had no hesitation in naming him to his squad for the Eurobasket A Division campaign in which GB were attempting to reach the 2009 Eurobasket Finals in Poland.

Boyd made an immediate impact in those six qualifying games and kept his place for the team that competed so well, despite massive injury problems, in Poland one year later.

By then, Boyd had completed a move to British domestic basketball, having spent the 2008-09 season with the Leicester Riders of the BBL but injury not only hampered him in Poland but also sidelined him until the end of 2009 before the guard joined the Spanish side Ourense in February 2010.

Chris Finch says: “Flinder brings a toughness and intelligence to our team and fills a huge need at the point guard spot. Over the next couple of seasons it’s pretty important for him to find a consistent professional situation because that uncertainty, and injuries, have hampered him over the past 18 months.”
