A 6’2” guard, currently playing US college basketball, Bailey was called into the GB senior squad in 2010, completing his progression through the international ranks that had seen him play for England and GB national teams from under-16 upwards.
From Helsby, Cheshire, Bailey learned the game with the renowned Manchester Magic junior programme, for whom he played his first season of organised basketball at the age of 16 in 2005-06.
Through connections with the Magic, Bailey completed his high school career in the States, at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, where he spent two seasons prior to embarking upon his collegiate career in 2009-10 at Central Connecticut State University. Bailey appeared in 31 games for the team, logging 23.9 minutes a game in which he averaged
2.5 points and handed out 75 assists over the season, second best on the team.
Having played for England at under-16 level as far back as 2005, Bailey has risen through the age group ranks, playing for the GB
under-18 team in the European Championship qualifiers in 2006 and 2007 and the under-20’s in the following two summers.
The summer of 2010 also saw Bailey called up by the GB Futures programme and the England national team as his progress was recognised across the international spectrum.
Head Coach Chris Finch, said of Bailey: "Another top performer in the Futures Program. Smart, solid and steady. Devan is amongst the best of our young emerging group of point guards."
