Another of the “pioneers” to have answered the call from then-coach Mark Clark when the GB women’s programme was re-instituted in 2006, Sarjant was one of the country’s leading domestic players at the time, with the Nottingham Wildcats.

By the time she joined up for the inaugural 2006 summer campaign, the 5’6” guard had already enjoyed one of her career highlights, as a member of the England women’s team that captured the bronze medal at that year’s Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

On the club front, Sarjant enjoyed four successful seasons with the Nottingham Wildcats before leaving the professional ranks in 2008. Among her club honours were helping the Wildcats to reach the EBL semi-finals in both 2006 and ’07.

Damian Jennings says: “Jo was one of the best players playing domestically in 2006 when we didn’t have the resources to go after players who were overseas at the time. She had the skill, the tenacity and intensity to stop players and, defensively, she is one of the few players I would really hang my hat on to do a job defensively. She was also a great player and great character to have around in that first year.”
